About Us
Western Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC) is a public-school district that provides innovative Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that prepare high school and adult students to enter the workforce and pursue continuing education.
West-MEC CTE programs allow students to earn college credit and industry credentials. More than 45,000 students from 49 high schools across 3,876 square miles in the northern and western cities of the Phoenix Metropolitan area are enrolled in West-MEC-funded programs.
Its funding comes from state appropriations and secondary property taxes from homeowners in the 12 school districts that comprise West-MEC. It is just one of Arizona's many voter-approved, joint technological education districts that introduces students to a vast array of career services in more than 100 school districts and fulfills a vital need in educating our young adults.
Along with the state’s universities, community colleges, and primary and secondary schools, joint technological education districts are one of the four legs of Arizona’s educational system. Each has its unique challenge to prepare Arizona students for the highly competitive workforce in our global economy.
West-MEC has distinguished itself as an innovative leader attuned to workforce needs, working in partnership with business, industry, and community colleges. State-of-the-art equipment, unique programs, and dedicated teachers provide students with an all-important learning pathway for future success. By graduating highly skilled students with relevant skill sets, West-MEC produces skilled members for the Valley’s workforce and contributes to the region’s quality of life.
